John Senior

So soon after the passing of our former Chairman, it is with great sadness that we have to report the sudden death of our member John Senior on the 12th October.

John was a member of our Panel for some four years during which time he made a valuable contribution to a number of cases.

He will be sorely missed by all of us and our sympathy and condolences go to his wife Nancy and his family.

Frank Tindall

It is with great sadness that we report the death of our former Chairman Frank Tindall on the 13th September. Frank was our chairman from the formation of the Panel in 2001 until this year.

It was due in large measure to his unstinted generosity with both his time and the resources he extended to our members that our Panel achieved the progress it has made in the eight years of its existence.

In addition to his contribution to Remap and his many other interests, Frank was also a highly respected authority on apline plants and was elected President of the Alpine Garden Society in 2006.

Our sympathies are extended to his wife Miriam and family. Frank will be sorely missed and remembered with great affection by all who knew him.

The 2009 Remap Awards .

Leeds & Bradford Panel were once again in the awards at this year's National AGM held at the Imperial War Museum - Duxford.

Our winner this year was Austin Hughes who received the Park Hil Trust Award for his 'power operated eye dropper'.

The award was  presented by our Vice President Professor Heinz Wolff.

The eyedropper was devised for a client who had to insert  drops every few hours but due to problems with his hands and fingers, even squeezing the normal dispensing capsule caused extreme pain.

The principle of the eyedropper is a screw plunger driven by a small geared electric motor to compress the dispensing capsule.

The motor can be 'pulsed' to control build up of each drop and the drop is visible as it forms to ensure the correct amount.

When sufficient drops are produced, the motor is reversed back to the open position.

2009 Harrogate Model Engineering Exhibition

Remap was represented at the Harrogate Model Engineering Exhibition held at the Yorkshire Showground in May.

The stand was organised by the Harrogate Panel with staffing assistance from other Panels in the region .

A focal feature of the stand was 'Elmo', an animated toy modified for disabled children. He attracted considerable attention and hopefully a few new members!

“Awards for All” Lottery Grant

We are pleased to announce that five Remap Panels in the Northern Region have received an ‘Awards for All’ lottery grant towards five laptops and digital projectors.

The primary purpose of the equipment is to raise the profile of Remap with presentations to increase general awareness of our services and also bring in more recruits.

It is hoped to add a database of Remap products in the near future which will greatly facility access to the fund of information on solutions to the many diverse problems encountered by Remap.

Particular thanks must go to Jill Homewood at HO for the amount of effort she has contributed in helping us acquire the grant.

A New Remap Panel with a difference!

As you will have seen in the latest National Newsletter, Remap now has a ‘virtual’ Panel. The intended activities of the new Panel are fully outlined on it’s own website and the link to that is Remap -Internet.

With the old maxim in mind of “Use it or loose it”, let us hope it gets plenty support
